Social Network Activism

In the past couple of years I have participated in a couple forms of “social network activism.” In today’s society, it is very easy to practice social network activism because of the Internet and especially websites such as Facebook and Twitter. Many companies use these websites for petitions or to create awareness of certain problems.

Through Facebook, I have joined many groups to gather information about a issue in my hometown, and shared this information with my friends. Also, after the earthquake in Haiti, my parents and I donated money through their hotline. Even though I have participated in various acts of social network activism, I have not followed through in any way after the initial action.

  1. The best example of facebook is Haiti. You learned how you could donate money, text Red Cross and donate $10 etc. It is such an important part of our generation in how we learn things. There is a lot of criticism but that's what our generation is use to. Learning about things on facebook. We aren't (at least not all of us) are in front of a violent video game. We are in front of a computer screen, reading groups are friends are apart of, invitations we receive as well as important ADS on the side of the screen! It's our own information website, people forget that a lot.

  2. Haiti was one of the hugest social movements this year because the earthquake was so devastating and it showed the world of the hardships that these people were going through
